Call For Clean Energy Incentives
It's time our nation made the switch to a clean energy economy. Many national companies have joined the call for clean power, including The United Steelworkers, as part of the Blue-Green Alliance, Green For All and the 25 x '25 Alliance. It's the government's job to provide business incentives for clean energy so we can expand our economy and be the pioneers of this new, exciting and necessary technology. Congress has been trying unsuccessfully for a year to extend tax credits for individuals, businesses and developers who invest in clean power. When the credits expire at the end of this year it’s estimated that more than 100,000 jobs and close to US $20 billion in investment will disappear.
Investments in solving global warming
"The quickest way to put Americans back to work is through investments in solving global warming," said Dave Foster, executive director of the Blue Green Alliance. "The jobs we'll create are the very jobs our country is losing in the current recession." For example, wind farm projects will create jobs for sheet metal workers, machinists and truck drivers, while increasing the energy efficiency of buildings through will rely on roofers, insulators and electricians. With the US Senate currently debating new legislation designed to pump billions of dollars into low carbon technologies, environmentalists and labour groups welcome the transition to a low carbon economy can deliver economic benefits. "By using the tax code to promote energy diversification we can lower energy prices for Americans across the country and help community businesses make the transition to cleaner production," said Rep. Philip English (R-PA), "The energy tax incentives included in this measure have garnered strong, bipartisan support and will continue to create opportunities to make our economy competitive, create more jobs and at the same time, benefit American consumers." This should be a no-brainer. Take back some of the oil co. subsidies from those who are profiting obscenely off of the working class, and stimulate the economy for real by giving that money to American entrepreneurs who start viable renewable energy solutions! I want to fight global warming. I want to create green jobs. I want to leave a clean world for my grandchildren. I want to clean up the air for my asthmatic child. I want to help America change direction.
