Keep Loaded Guns Out of National Parks

Imagine the sound of gunfire disrupting the tranquility of your family's next camping vacation.

Currently, unloaded and safely stowed firearms are welcome in national parks. But the NRA somehow convinced the government that gun owners should be able to bring loaded firearms into parks as well. Loaded firearms add the threat of accidental discharge, could increase wildlife poaching and are a risk to park visitors, and park rangers whose primary role should be educating the visiting families.

The U.S. national park system is a treasure to families across the country. Whether you're a fan of hiking in Yosemite or the Shenandoah or historical exploration at Mt. Rushmore or Gettysburg, the National Park Service offers a safe and memorable experience for the whole family.

Check out these news and resource references:
Keeping Guns Out of the Parks - There is nothing confusing about the distinction between federal lands where hunting is allowed and national parks, where hunting is not. They are set aside as peaceful animal preserves for all the species that enjoy them, including humans.

National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) - Despite our aggressive attempts to keep the NRA from pushing their political agenda to allow loaded guns in our national parks, we couldn't stop their power. But you can.

Alternate Suggestion?

If Parkgoers are really concerned about their safety from animals, they could carry pepper spray on their person for self defense. That way it won't harm the animal but, will only scare it away if the animal becomes a threat. Maybe they could even pass it out at the entrance gate for the safety of everyone entering.

The Government just extended the comment period until August 8, meaning it's critical that you act soon.

It could be a reality if we don't stop a proposed amendment to allow loaded weapons in national parks. Please don't let the NRA compromise the safety of Parkgoers and wildlife. Please help:http://go.care2.com/e/7c6G/vx0W/AlVvl

Comments:
I think loaded guns in national parks is a terrible idea . This is a place that our children play and feel safe. Accidental gun shots are heard about all the time please reconsider your decision to do this.

I horseback ride in various parks and would feel threatened if loaded guns were allowed in some of the parks I ride in. It would be so dangerous. Please do not allow this to happen!!!
