Red Knot In Danger Of Extinction

Why should we save the red knot?

It's a fairly average looking shorebird, amongst
millions of shorebirds in the world. Yet the amazing
red knot makes one of the most spectacular migrations
of any species, traveling nearly nonstop from as far
south as the tip of South America to Delaware Bay.
Here it needs to refuel on horseshoe crab eggs to
complete the final leg of its incredible migration to
the Canadian Arctic.

But the red knot is in danger of extinction. A new
report confirms a 90 percent decline in the bird's
population over the past ten years. This means that
the red knot may become extinct in just a few years.

Send a message today asking for emergency listing
of the red knot under the Endangered Species Act:

The shores of Delaware Bay provide a critical
stopover area for knots and other migratory
shorebirds. Historically, more than 100,000 Red Knots
stopped at the Bay to feast on horseshoe crab eggs each
spring, to help power the final leg of their long
flight. Last year, less than 13,000 were counted.

The red knot needs immediate protection in the
U.S. or it risks further decline and extinction.

Please take a moment today, and send your message
calling for an emergency listing of the red knot
under the Endangered Species Act:

Thanks for taking action!

Contributor's Note

Because of the red knot's highly precarious situation, it needs immediate protection under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
